I have participated in a FB scarf challenge.

I wanted to make an elegant scarf that you could wear to a party or use for everyday warmth. I live in Canada, and although not in an extreme weather area (I live on the west coast with mild weather) still needed something thicker and yet stylish. I think this scarf also has the benefit of being non-gendered; it can be worn by anyone.

If you are familiar with my patterns, you already know that I am combining ancient elements taken from Persian rugs with modern techniques in crochet.

I’ve used Soft & Shiny from Loops & Threads yarn, and a 4.5 mm hook.

It is a worsted weight yarn (4-medium), 100% Acrylic. These skeins are 170 grams each, with 311 yards (285 m). I chose to use the color Gray Blue as my Main Color and Cadmium Orange as my Contrasting Color. I needed two skeins of gray-blue and one skein of orange.

You can substitute any medium worsted-weight yarn. Gauge isn’t critical with a scarf, if you’re off by a few inches it will still keep you warm and beautiful!

You will receive 1 file with a written pattern for the mosaic technique and a chart with X’s.

Overlay mosaic crochet uses only single crochet and double crochet stitches. The double crochet stitches cover some of the other color’s single crochet stitches to create the design. My patterns instruct you to cut your yarn at the end of each row. The back is striped but often gives a faint impression of the pattern on the front (sort of like illusion knitting).
