With their vertical and horizontal stripes smoothly blending together, the Randalínur (litteraly “bands of lignes” in Icelandic) socks are a simple yet strong design
They are inspired by traditional Icelandic mittens which were knitted in stranded knitting with vertical 1 stitch stripes, making for a very dense and stiff fabric, almost like double knitting.
The Randalínur socks on the other hand are perfectly elastic. The vertical lines are knitted with a deceptively simple technique using only one color at the time in each round. The socks are worked entirely in the round, from the cuff down with a yarn over short row heel. The toe is shaped with symmetrical decreases and grafted.
