A great stash-buster, as each square can use up some odds and ends that have no purpose otherwise.

Each square is knitted in such a way that it has no reverse side - so no stockinette stitch or similar. But aside from that, it’s a very flexible system! You can use any wool that you have available, it doesn’t have to be the weight and needle size listed above. You can also use whatever pattern or stitch you like, because it makes the blanket more interesting.

A nice idea is to ask your friends to make squares in whatever style they like, so that when it’s finished it’s a “friendship blanket” and has great sentimental value.
