Ranken Shawl
“Ranken” is a triangular shaped shawl, featuring a variation of two coloured seed stitch and a wide floral colorwork edge.
This shawl is all about the details: texture, colorwork, crocheted bobbles (video tutorial), a little bit of garter and a contrasting picot edge. The pattern holds your hand for all of these techniques and guides you through a playful and varied knitting process.
“Ranken” is knitted in the round and steeked at the end. The pattern includes detailed instructions for steeking (photos of each step and written instructions), using a crocheted reinforcement to secure the stitches before cutting. The cut edges are hidden inside an additional knitted fabric.
The patterns name and vague inspiration “Ranken” is the German word and it means “tendrils”. But the design itself is not inspired by a specific plant. It is much more an interpretation of a tendril fantasy flower that wanted to step into reality through knitting.
