Ranunculus Shawlette
Do you remember picking buttercups and holding them under your chin to see what colour would shine off your skin? If your chin turned yellow, it meant you liked butter…
I still have a fondness for these vividly coloured wildflowers; they are bright and cheery in a season marked frequently by rain and grey skies, at least in my part of the world. They are a promise of the sunshine to come.
Ranunculus is a single-skein heart-shaped shawlette featuring fields of five-petalled flowers around a lightly beaded center panel representing springtime. The proportionately longer ‘wings’ of the shawl make it easy to wear without needing a shawl pin.
Materials Needed:
- @425 yards of light fingering weight yarn
- 54 6/0 seed beads
- 4mm (US size6) needles or size required to make a fabric you like
- a small (0.5mm) crochet hook or other method for beading
- 4 stitch markers to mark edges and center panel of body
- a cable needle
A note on gauge:
I do not consider gauge to be important for lace knitting. I like the fabric I get on 4mm needles for fingering weight shawls; you may prefer a looser or denser fabric. If you prefer a much larger needle, keep in mind that you will also need more yardage.
My thanks to Naomi Parkhurst of Gannet Designs for permission to use the Buttercup, Buttercup Border, and Spring lace motifs featured in this pattern.
Due to the nature of digital patterns, all sales are final.
