Raritan Cowl
From the pattern:
The Raritan River is not remarkably large, nor possessed of any spectacular features, and yet in its sinuous winding through the wooded surroundings it achieves a simple beauty. The beauty of this cowl is likewise in its simplicity - an easy lace pattern looks equally attractive (though very different) on both sides, and just a touch of ribbing gives it a gentle hourglass shape which drapes perfectly. Though I have chosen a variegated colorway that reminds me of the Raritan on a fall day, this pattern looks equally elegant in solid and handpainted yarns.
The Raritan Cowl is simple enough for confident beginners, and a great choice for new lace knitters. For knitters with more experience, this is a great tv knitting project to complete in an evening or two. The skills required include knitting in the round, k1p1 ribbing, yo, k2tog, and ssk. A ribbed cable cast-on is recommended, but a stretchy cast-on method can be substituted if desired.
