Raspberry Fizz Shawl
This is a crescent shaped shawl. It is very meditative because of the many rows of simple garter stitch, at the same time, the increase rows bring interest to the knitting. Finally, the wide border of conjoint ellipses in a contrasting color adds fun and makes the shawl a statement piece. Even though the border looks fantastic, it is very simple to knit with short rows in garter stitch, you won’t even need to pick up the wraps!
Size: one
Finished measurements: 65” (165cm) tip to tip and 20” (50cm) deep at front.
Yarn: Main color: 810 yards (740m) of fingering weight yarn. Contrasting color: 270 yards (247m) of fingering weight yarn. Sample used 180gr of Cherry Creek Sock from Dyehouse yarns by Serial Knitters in colorway “Hot Damn!” and 60gr in “Wild Ocre”.
Recommended needle size: US #5 (3.75mm) circular needle, at least 20” (50cm) long. A circular needle is not necessary, but it will hold the weight of the shawl better as it grows. Gauge is not important as long as you like the fabric that is created, though a different gauge can change dimensions and yardage requirements.
Notions: Yarn needle for weaving in ends and 10 stitch markers. Optionally, one locking stitch marker to mark the RS.
Gauge: 24 sts and 21 ridges = 4 inches square in garter st, after blocking.
