Made of cool, mercerized cotton for summer wear, hat is extra long to hold dreadlocks.
Size: Hat band circumference is 14” and widens to 30”. Hat is 10” long.
Yarn: Made of machine washable and dryable 24/7 Cotton by Lion Brand. 170m (186 yards)/ 50g (3.5 oz.)
Gauge: 11 stitches and 13 rows = 5 cm/2” in Straight stitch with larger needle size.
Recommended needle sizes: US 7 and 8, 16” circular, US 7 double pointed needles (set of 5)
Notions: One stitch marker, tapestry needle.
Instructions:This hat is worked in round from bottom to top in one color with pattern changes every two inches.
Abbreviations:
M1k – make one knitwise: with left needles lift running strand between stitches from front to back, then knit into the back loop of strand.
K – knit
P – purl
Half linen stitch pattern (for working in the round)
Row 1 (RS): K1, sl 1 purlwise (with yarn in front); rep from to end.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: Sl 1 purlwise (with yarn in front);
Row 4: Knit.
Repeat from
to end.
Rep rows 1-4 for patt.

Cast on 96 stitches
Using larger needle, join to binging and work in round. K2, p2 for 2 inches. (2 X 2 ribbing). Use stitch marker to distinguish rounds.
Change to larger needle and increase (m1k) after every 6 stitches (112 sts).
Make garter stitch (purl one row, knit one row,) for 2 inches.
In last knit row increase (m1k) every 8 stitches to increase total to 126 stitches.
Work in half linen pattern for 2 inches. Must have even number of stitches to work this pattern.
Hat will now be 6 inches long.
Knit all rows until cap measures 8 inches from beginning.
Row decreases. Knit two together every inch (about every 4 stitches). Knit straight row in between decrease rows. Change to double pointed needles at about 64 remaining stitches. Continue until only two stitches left on each needle. Cut yarn and pass through remaining stitches. Fasten off.
