Inspired by the song from Mean Girls on Broadway, the Rather Be Me Beanie is an anthem of being true to yourself and standing up for who you are. It’s a bright and bold statement that says I’m not here to meet others’ expectations and I’m definitely not looking to be nice for the sake of politeness - I’d Rather Be Me, exactly as I am.

The Rather Be Me Beanie is super mindless and accessible even to newer beginners. It’s available in a full range of sizes and can easily be adjusted to work with any weight and yarn. The beanie uses two yarn weights held together and can also be hooked up in two different yarns, making it a perfect scrappy project.

Gauge
24 sts and 18 rows = 4”/10cm in sc blo with smaller hook. Row gauge matters more than st gauge, the height of the beanie can easily be adjusted but the row gauge determines the fit of the brim.

Yarn and Yardage
The pattern works well in almost any colorway and can easily be adjusted to work with any yarn weight(s). You can work it to size rather than following the instructions and the beanie is an excellent scrappy project.

When worked as designed, the brim of the beanie uses sport weight. The body of the beanie uses sport weight held together with lace weight, which equals about a DK or light worsted yarn. You can also make the beanie using one yarn throughout. In that case, the numbers for the sport weight yarn is equal to the total yardage needed to make the beanie. If you’re using two separate yarns for the brim and the body, the numbers for the brim are the amount needed for the brim, and the yardage/meters for the lace weight are the amount needed for the body of the beanie. If holding a yarn together, you will need approximately the same yardage/meters for both yarns being held together.
