Raven Afghan Overlay Mosaic Crochet Pattern
I did not intend to make a big dark raven pattern in time for Hallowe’en, it is a happy accident. I just happened to arrive at R in my alphabetical birds project in the summer.
This mosaic crochet pattern is designed for the overlay technique. Pattern includes a chart AND row-by-row written instructions.
The sample shown is a lapghan (roughly 55”x38”) made with #4 weight yarn (Lion Brand Pound of Love, Charcoal and Elephant).
Notes:
Single crochet (SC) stitches are made in the back loop only (BLO) unless specified otherwise.
Double crochet (DC) stitches are dropped down to the front loop of stitch from the previous row.
Sample shown was made with a 5 mm hook. If your tension is naturally tight, you may wish to use a 5.5 mm hook to achieve a better drape. A larger hook will make a softer more breathable afghan, but the pattern will be less distinct. Swatching is strongly encouraged so that you can decide what hook size yields the best results for you and your yarn.
Materials:
5 mm hook
Lion Brand Pound or Love (or similar worsted weight yarn) in Elephant (pale grey) x2 and Charcoal (dark grey) x2.
Finishing needle
Yarn snips or scissors
(Optional - 6.5 mm hook for border)
Stitches:
FSC foundation SC (optional)
DC double crochet
BLSC back loop single crochet
FLDC front loop double crochet
SC single crochet
