Ravine
Ravine. This pattern was written to have these little ravines of dropped stitches, as I was knitting along though I found that the texture of the garter and stockinette stitches was quite gorgeous. So the instructions include information on both options! The Dropped stitches make a lovely flow-y and open fabric and change the shape of the shawl too in a really lovely way. I used some cotton in my stash for this project but I’m confident that it would look amazing in almost any yarn fiber. Rustic wool, smooth silk or even self striping yarn!
This pattern includes both fully written and fully charted instructions.
As with all my for-pay patterns, if you find yourself low on funds feel free to email me softsweaterknits@gmail.com and I’ll gift you a copy free of charge, no questions asked <3
Yarn:
Approximately 370 yards (338 metres) of cotton* sport weight yarn.
or wool, or any fiber you choose.
Needles:
3.75mm (US 5) circular needles in at least a 24” (60cm) cord. Or whatever size needles it takes you to get gauge.
Notions:
Whichever tools you prefer to weave in ends, and whichever tools you prefer to block your shawls.
40 stitch markers (2 stitch markers for every dropped stitch). If you’re planning on making this shawl larger, consider adding more stitch markers
You don’t have to use markers for this pattern if you don’t want to. The markers are just marking the stitches that are going to be dropped. Those stitches are worked in
stockinette stitch for the whole pattern and the instructions around markers are just because of that. They are purled on the wrong side rows, they’re knit on the right side rows.
Gauge:
20 stitches and 26 rows = 4” (10cm) square knit flat in garter (before the stitches are dropped), blocked.
63” (160cm) measured along the wingspan.
30” (76cm) measured down the deepest part of the triangle.
