RBG Socks
Inspired by the iconic elegance of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, I have designed and knit some judicial robes with a lace collar for our feet. The 1x1 ribbing echoes the pleating of her robes and the lace collar feature uses Color Loops to make lace webbing on reverse stockinette. However, you might choose to fold the cuff down so the stockinette side shows in a fold-over style. Additional ribbing gives the socks a form-fitting, snug fit. And speaking of snug, the ankle snug preheel feels great. Then two mini-gussets for the ankle combine with a short row heel for an architecturally rich pair of socks. I hope anyone who wants to knit these socks for themselves or friends will find them comfortable, beautiful, and a way to honor RBG for all that she’s done for us, and a small boost for us to try to continue her work in our own ways.
This pattern includes directions for knitting all but the Color Loops lace design on a CSM (Circular Sock Machine).
You will need a skein of black sock yarn and about 20 yards of white sock yarn. I used a sock set from Knitters Brewing Co: sock-aholic Old No. 8 in the Schwarzbier colorway
For demonstration of knitting see Episode 2 of Color Loops Knitting on YouTube: https://youtu.be/jYUuGPLCcC42
errata note 1: Row B of heel flap should read: “Knit across, and turn work.”
