Need a new friend for the Year of the Snake 2025? Look no further, for this snake pattern creates quite a realistic looking slithery friend. It utilizes spike stitches, front post double crochets and backloop only stitches to achieve a textured, scaly look, and as such it’s a suitable project for the experienced crocheter who’s familiar with these stitches.

The snake can be given a very simple wire armature for poseability, but it can be left without one if so pleased. Without an armature it becomes a soft fidget toy -sort of creature that is fun to wrap around your arm over and over again.

The snake in this tutorial is made with weight 2 (fine) cotton yarn, and the resulting size of the head is then very realistic to most snakes, and as for length, the snake can be made as long as one pleases. Cotton yarn works great for this project to really achieve those crisp texture details. The snake is worked up from two separate pieces which are then crocheted together as the final step. To complete it you’ll also need some filling and a pair of safety eyes.

This 8-page digital PDF contains row-by-row crochet patterns for creating the snake, and contains plenty of progression pics for help. The PDF is in english and uses US terminology.
