Knitted as one long tube in the round, the scarf progresses through any number of colors and colorwork patterns--or just plain stripes, culled from your stash. The David Bowie portraits require 3-strands of yarn, everything else was done with two.

The charts for 2 David Bowie portraits, the typography you see in the prototype, and a handful of other small patterns I designed.

You’ll also get a lot of tips on indispensable colorwork tools that took me from colorwork fail to colorwork success, and links to instructional YouTube videos on some of the techniques, including duplicate stitch embroidery (optional).

The sky’s the limit on this scarf! Colors, patterns, length, all determined by you.

IMPORTANT, WHAT’S NOT IN THE PATTERN:

You should have some experience knitting stranded colorwork, or be willing to learn (via YouTube). How-to stranded colorwork instructions are not included.

Charts taken from Alterknit Rebellion by Anna Bauer and Alterknit Stitch Dictionary by Andrea Rangel are not included. Both books are available on Amazon and are musts for any colorwork knitter’s library. I’d also love to see this scarf knitted with more traditional Scandinavian or British chart patterns, or with simple striping too. There are many free charts all over the internet, particularly on Pinterest. As any Bowie fan knows: David looks good in so MANY fashion styles!
