Rebuck Shawl
Vertical and horizontal textures are displayed in the Rebuck Shawl. An easy-to-memorize Eyelet Rib runs at right angles to a Horizontal Rib.
The shawl begins with a few stitches and increases along one edge to create the asymmetrical triangle.
The instructions for the Set up and Eyelet Rib Section are both written and charted; the instructions for the Eyelet Rib and Horizontal Rib Section are written only.
SKILL LEVEL
Intermediate
SIZE
One size: wingspan is approx. 45” and depth at center approx. 19”, after blocking.
YARN
Liverpool Fingering, 100% Shetland Wool, approx. 180 yds/50 g, 2 skeins. Sample shown in Straw.
NEEDLES
US size 5 (3.75 mm) 32” circular needle. Shawl is worked flat; the circular needle accommodates the large number of stitches.
NOTIONS
Removable stitch marker
Blocking wires (optional but recommended)
Yarn needle
GAUGE
In Eyelet Rib pattern, 17 sts and 28 rows = 4” after
blocking
In Reverse Stockinette stitch, 20 sts and 36 rows = 4”
after blocking
Exact gauge is not crucial. Use a needle size that
gives you a fabric that you like, but be aware that a
change in gauge can affect the amount of yarn
used and the size of the finished shawl.
Errata: Row 11 of the Eyelet Section should read: P2, k2, p2, k5. Rep from to last 8 sts, p2, k2, kf&b, k1.
