Imagine you are skiing cross country and the prepared track in the snow lies ahead of you. Gently following the curves of the ground. Now and then you see how previous skiers have crossed the tracks and left a pattern of crossing lines in the snow on the ground. A bird is singing, and maybe a still and silent moose is watching you among the trees.

The construction of this sock is traditional toe-up with a gusset and heel flap. Toe and foot are worked in classic colour-work. Above the heel there is some ribbing to ensure a good fit followed by the leg worked in a relief two-colour slip stitch pattern.

Materials
Yarn: 100 g of Drops Fabel, Schoppel-Wolle Admiral or equivalent as main colour, 40 g of equivalent contrasting yarn
Needles and notions: Double pointed needles size 2½ mm / US 1½, 2 markers
Gauge: 32 stitches / 42 rounds of Stockinette stitch = 10 cm /4 inches
Sizes: Ladies XS (S M L)

This pattern was first released as a part of the sock knitter contest Sock Madness 10 during spring 2016, exclusive for the participants. The contestants at first had only a few images to work from, and then received the full pattern only after a few days.

Sockan har en traditionell konstruktion med hålfot och hälkappa, men är stickad från tån och upp. Tån och foten är stickade i tvåfärgsmönster. Ovanför hälkappan kommer en kort bit resår för att sockorna ska sitta bra, men efter det släpper vi loss i ett tvåfärgat reliefmönster med lyfta maskor.

Tänk dig att du skidar genom en stilla skog och spåren sträcker sig framför dig. Följer markens krökningar. Då och då syns andra skidspår som korsar dem du följer, och där bildas ett tillfälligt rutmönster av spår. En fågel sjunger, och kanske står en tyst och orörlig älg bland träden och betraktar dig.

Mönstret publicerades först i sockstickar-tävlingen Sock Madness 10 under våren 2016, exklusivt för deltagarna. Deltagarna fick först bara några bilder att sticka sockan från, och fick tillgång till hela mönstret efter några dagar.
