Red Doritos
This is a fundraising pattern for my late brother, Mino (1971-2004).
Test Knit was held at my Ravelry group thread.
Red Doritos is a unisex reversible textured cowl designed to show off the beauty of a hand dyed yarn. A triangle (“Doritos”) motif in two simple stitches, knit and purl, creates lights and shadows with different textures.
I need to mention that it is purposely designed as twisted. Non-knitters call this type of long cowl an “Infinity Cowl”. Well, the infinity sign is not a circle. It is a Mobius, isn’t it? I often make a mistake when joining in the round and end up with a Mobius. Sigh! One day, I thought “Why not a twisted join? I have to twist it when wearing it double. Even wearing it single, a twisted join at the back of my neck is not a problem.” So, I designed one.
This cowl can be modified in length and width by changing the number of cast on stitches and the repeats of the motif. Also, there are two different edge patterns to choose from.
Thanks to my 10 year old daughter, Nicole, who came up with such an unique name for this cowl.

All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, MInoru HOkari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork. We are trying to fully fund it to achieve its perpetuity. Please help.
Please visit Being Connected with HOKARI MINORU to meet Mino.
