Red Herring Mittens
“Red Herring” is a phrase used to describe a distraction. No matter what color you choose to knit your herrings my hope is that the knitting will be a pleasant distraction. These stranded color work mittens feature a faux entrelac cuff and purl stitch accents. A simple alternating stitch pattern on the palm, sometimes called “Salt and Pepper”, evokes fish scales and also helps move the knitting along quickly. The thumb gusset is shaped for a comfy fit. Charts are included for both a right and left hand. The larger, middle fish are mirrored so they can smile at each other when the mittens are worn.
The thumb gusset construction virtually eliminates gaps or holes at the corners. Special instructions for paired increases are included.
Instructions are written for double pointed needles but please use your preferred method of working small circumferences in the round.
This pattern is suitable for adventurous knitters, new to color work ,as well as more experienced knitters.
