Red Lilies Christmas Stocking
Lilies play a big role in many traditional Norwegian designs. We see a variety of lily designs in Selbu mittens and sweaters. They are often placed with four lilies on the diagonal in a rosette like the center of this stocking but can also be seen in pairs on a border. The stylized lilies in this stocking may also appear to be carousel horses or birds. Can you find them?
This generously sized stocking has a picot hem at the top, a flap heel and round toe. The I-cord loop makes it easy to hang. Made in the suggested aran weight yarn it will have a finished size of about 16 inches around and 21 inches top to toe. A finer yarn and/or smaller needles can be used to make a smaller stocking.
MC – M101 Bing Cherry, 2 skeins, CC – M11 White Frost, one skein. I ended with only a tiny ball of the Bing Cherry left over from the first skein so I have suggested a second skein for safety.
