Red Rocks/Welted Wedge is broad on one end and narrow at the other, with a dramatic disparity between the two, for a wedge-shaped triangle wrap/shawl/scarf. It’s long and slim-line, with a good sweep and a malleable shape that lends well to all different kinds of styling.

It’s generously sized in the worsted/aran wool shown (Malabrigo Yarn Worsted in the Pagoda colorway), and knit in a simple welted pattern. Since it’s worked side to side (or bottom up, depending on your perspective. Or top down. But when it’s worn as a scarf, it’s side to side), the welts form vertical ridges—essentially, ribbing approached in a different way—and the faux-random patterning adds extra interest to the short row construction.

The only special technique used in this wrap is the basic wrap-and-turn short row! An excellent tutorial—with everything short-row-related you need for this project—can be viewed here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zccgIfV4pZM

Gauge:
Gauge is 12 sts and 24 rows in pattern or in blocked stockinette. Gauge is important to the finished dimensions of the piece and to yarn requirements, though not for fit in this case. Needle sizes are only a starting point; use the needles you need to work at gauge.

Materials:
-About 2.5-3 skeins of Malabrigo Yarn Worsted, or 530 yards of this or similar soft aran-weight wool.
-One 36”+ circular knitting needle in US9-10/5.5–6.0mm, or size needed for gauge
-Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Optional:
-Lots of stitch markers for a longish cast-on edge.
