Red Rooster Tea Cosy
This is my interpretation of a Red Rooster Tea Cosy. It fits a standard tea pot with a circumference of about 22”, but the stitch has a fair bit of give, and should therefore fit a bigger pot. This one is made using Chunky weight yarn and a 5.5mm hook, but going down to aran weight with a 4mm hook would make it a bit smaller.
The main body, wings, and tail piece took less than 144 meters of yarn, with oddments used for the head, beak, wattles, comb, and tail.
However, it’s ideal for making in lots of different colours - who says it has to be red!?
There’s no particular guage, but aim to have the body piece, from bottom edge to top edge, measuring about 8” before gathering the top.
In addition, you’ll need a couple of safety eyes (or black yarn if you’d prefer to embroider the eyes), and a small amount of stuffing.
I’ve tested this pattern, and hope it all works properly, but if you see any bloopers please PM me.
