Red Squirrel fingerless mitts
PDF knitting pattern for a pair of fingerless mitts/gloves with two red squirrels on the front of each mitt. Each squirrel is holding a tasty acorn. The palms of the mitts are plain.
The mitts in the photograph are in Rowan Fine Tweed in a dark beige colour. The yarn is flecked with knops in cream, yellow and grey and is equivalent to 4ply weight. The squirrels are in rust Rowan pure wool 4ply and have yellow eyes, black noses, grey under the arms and are holding brown and light beige acorns.
The gloves used 25gm of Fine Tweed. This wool goes a long way, so if using any other 4ply yarn - wool, cashmere or cotton - slightly more will be needed (approximately 30-40gm of the main colour).
The motifs are knitted using the intarsia method, but the mitts could be knitted in plain stocking stitch and the squirrels added afterwards using duplicate stitch/Swiss darning.
Two sets of charts for both left and right mitt are included, in both symbols and colour, together with typed knitting instructions.
The approximate measurements for the mitts are: 9cm/3.5” wide (unstretched and not counting the thumb), 13cm/5” long from top of rib to cast-off edge and 2.5cm/1” long rib. The mitts could be made slightly larger or smaller by altering the size of the needles
