I used a little less than two skeins, and my blanket is roughly 30” x 30”. You can make it as big or as small as you want - just keep repeating the pattern.
An L (8mm) hook would work for this as well. The smaller hook is to weave in ends (more convenient with bulky yarns, in my opinion).
It’s worked like a granny square. You can see how it’s done in the photo tutorials. I used Red Heart Soft (I think - it came from my scraps) to demonstrate how to turn the square, since that yarn has better stitch definition. The gray square is also made using this pattern.
