On my way to church one Sunday morning this view stopped me in my tracks. It was the inspiration for a shawl pattern just waiting to happen. Two years, lots of life events, and a couple of beautiful Japanese stitch patterns later, here we are. Ta Da!

Reflection of a Sunrise is a knitted heart-shaped shawl that uses Japanese stitch patterns with an influence from the Shetland style of adding contrasting colored borders (approximately 45 - 60 yards per color). There is lace knitting on both right and wrong sides. The small and medium sizes have three contrasting colors. The large size has five. It looks great in a gradient also.

This is a color charted pattern, not written row by row. You would have the best success reading these charts by printing them in color, or coloring them if printing in black and white.

Finished Size
Small: Spine length 24 inches, Wing-tip to Wing-tip 54 inches
Medium: Spine length 26 inches, Wing-tip to Wing-tip 64 inches
Large: Spine length 28 inches, Wing-tip to Wing-tip 85 inches
Lace Weight: Spine length 23 inches, Wing-tip to Wing-tip 56 inches, Approximately 900 yards/Medium

Gauge
1 inch = 6 stitches and 8 rows Stockinette
(Size 6 needles, unblocked)

Materials
(small) 700/(medium) 930/ (large) 1000 yards Fingering Weight Yarn

Small: 550 MC + 150 CC
Medium: 750 MC + 180 CC
Large: 800 MC + 250 CC
Each CC uses approximately 50 yards. Every knitter’s gauge is a little different. You may use less on the first CC, and more on the final CC.

Needles: US Size 6 (4.0 mm) and Size 7 (4.5 mm)

6/0 Beads (optional - Small 200, Medium 280, Large 540)
1 mm Crochet Hook

Yarn amounts and gauge vary from knitter to knitter. The amounts and dimensions given are approximate.
Please read the Stitch Definitions very carefully in the pattern instructions. They take the place of a traditionally written pattern. The symbols are mostly color coded and have clearly written definitions. Work one symbol, one stitch at a time. Enjoy! FYI: There will be a reminder at the beginning of the row when it is time to switch needle sizes.

I used a lifeline after working the wrong side of each chart/pair of charts. You are welcome to place one as often as you feel the need.
