Refraction is a triangular bandana, worked from the top down, starting with a garter tab. It uses a single skein of DK weight yarn in the main color and scraps in 1 to 3 contrast colors. The pattern, featuring simple cables over a background of reverse stockinette, shows up best with a fairly light-colored yarn. A light main color also gives a good backdrop for the contrast colors to really shine.

The design was inspired by the phenomenon of ”refraction,” or the bending of light as it passes through different media. The cables and knit stitches represent rays of light, their path bending as they pass through the contrast color bands.
