This cardigan is a combination of modular and top-down knitting. The sleeves and bodice are worked sideways, starting at the bottom of the sleeve and connected at the center back with a three-needle bind off.

After the sleeves and side seams are sewn together, stitches are picked up at the bottom of the lace bodice and the cardigan is finished in top-down fashion.

The lace portion of the cardigan is worked on smaller needles sizes and at a smaller gauge than the stockinette portion.

Sizes:
XS (S, M, L)(XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL) - to fit 34 (36, 38, 40-42)(44, 48, 52, 56)” chest

Yarn:
Fingering or Sport 
approx. 1300 (1400, 1500, 1550)(1600, 1650, 1700, 1750) yards

The fingering gives a lighter fabric, but both types of yarn should work. I would not recommend using variegated yarns, though tonals would work just fine. The prototype was knit in Tosh Merino Light.

Needles:
U.S. 3 (3.25 mm) – 24”, 32” or 40” circular needle
U.S. 4 (3.5 mm) – 32” or 40” circular needle
U.S. 5 (3.75 mm) - 24”, 32” or 40” circular needle
U.S. 6 (4 mm) - 32” or 40” circular needle
Optional: U.S. 1 (2 mm) circular needle

Notions:
Stitch Markers (for the lace portion – small markers will work best)
Spare Needle or Stitch Holder (for the back section stitches of the bodice)
Tapestry Needle

Gauge:
24 sts & 32 rows = 4” on size U.S. 4 (3.5mm) in stockinette (after blocking) 

22 sts & 28 rows = 4” on size U.S. 6 (4 mm) in stockinette (after blocking)
