Relief Counterpane Blanket
This pattern was designed to raise money for disaster relief in the Long Island, NY area post Hurricane Sandy. All proceeds from the sale of this pattern will benefit Long Island Cares, a local food bank supplying the victims of the hurricane with necessary items. Special thanks to The Village Knitter in Babylon, NY for providing me the electricity, Internet access, and amazing community it took to take this pattern possible!
This blanket is formed combining several square counterpanes together. Each square is knit in the round, from the center out. There are six sections to each square. Follow the sections as written, or rearrange them to create your own unique twist!
Materials
• Approximately 150 yards worsted weight yarn per square
• Size US 7/4.5 mm needles
o One set of 5 dpns
o Appropriate circulars for knitting in the round
• 4 stitch markers (optional)
Measurements
Each square is designed to be 12” by 12”. Use any combination of squares to form a blanket. For example, a blanket of 3 squares by 3 squares (approximately 3’ by 3’) makes the perfect size for a baby blanket or lap blanket. Increasing the number of squares used would give you a larger blanket.
