Yarn Choices:
This piece is knit in Light DK or sport weight yarn. Look for YARN that is between 274 & 300 yds per 100g, to match well if using other yarns and not suggested yarns. MANY things will work, including stash and scraps. If changing yarn weight, you should adjust your needle size, gauge and yardage needed. Since this project uses mosaic knitting, how much yarn you need is impacted by how tight or loose your floats are. I used most of my yarns with moderate and not loose tension. You may need more yarn, depending.
See Ravelry Projects page for exact yarn colors and other yarn options.
This will also show you what the pattern testers used, and you can read their comments.

CONTRAST COLOR 1 (CC1): AG2N, solid DK, CHARTREUSE 100g/274 yds (USED MOST (92g))
CONTRAST COLOR 2 (CC2): AG2N, solid DK, TURQUOISE 100g/274 yds (USED MOST (93g))
*this set is 5 skeins of yarn, 100g/274 yds each. Leftovers were bits of each colorway to = 100g.

GAUGE:
Using US 5 (3.75 mm) and in the stocking knit CENTER (worked in the round), before BLOCKING. Gauge is not crucial, except for the need of buying enough yarn.
Sizing can be somewhat controlled when you block.

SIZE: URTH was 44” x 37”; AG2N was 48” x 40”. Both were blocked hard; different yarns allowed different stretch.

Needles: Round, US 5 (3.75 mm). I used the longest cable I had & MAGIC LOOP method.

Notions: Stitch markers, needle or hook to tuck in ends

A walk through the pattern-
The pattern starts in a non-traditional way. It is reminiscent of the start of a braided rug. However, it continues to build in a rectangle, not an oval. The original was created as a celebration for the birth of a friend’s child and had names and dates on it. I found that I loved the sampler aspect of the design and wanted to write it as a pattern without personalization. Additionally, I found, it was a very wearable ‘shawl’ and not only a throw or baby blanket. This piece is a combination of stitches and textures. It employs different types of mosaic. Starting with a very simple design and then has some more complex forms; it also plays with the textural aspects of mosaic and how much is garter and how much is stocking knit. It has some stitch patterns and an applied lace edge at the end. The hope is you will find it interesting and fun AND you might learn something new along the way. I hope you enjoy it as much as the test knitters & I did.
