Repartee Shawl
Repartee (noun)
rep•ar•tee | \ re-pər-ˈtē, -ˌpär-,-ˈtā \
1: a quick and witty reply
2: a succession or interchange of clever retorts: amusing and usually light sparring with words
Repartee shawl is an interchange of simple patterns between 2 contrasting yarn in fun and amusing way. To make it even more interesting, yarns picked for that pattern gradually change colors. There are many possibilities to steer the “conversation” the way you want.
100% cotton yarn used for the sample. It doesn’t stretch as much as wool yarn of the same thickness.
Shawl is crescent-shaped, worked from neck down. The final shape is achieved by blocking.
Pattern combines sections of garter stitch, stockinette stitch, slip stitch, and easy lace.
You can work lace sections from written instructions or the charts.
Yarn: Fingering weight yarn, that gradually changes colors:
2 skeins in contrasting colors
Suggested yarn: Wolle’s Yarn Creations Color Changing Cotton - 100% Cotton
- Yarn A: Shore Line (4 color change -720 yards /150g) - 696 yards /143g used
- Yarn B: Coral 2 (3 color change -480 yards /100g) - 273 yards /57g used
Needles: US #3 / 3.25 mm circular needles (or as required to meet gauge)
Notions: Stitch markers, darning needle
Gauge: 20 sts x 36 rows = 4” in stockinette after wet blocking. Exact gauge is not important for this project, it is given to get an idea of how dense knitted fabric has to be to get the size within the same yardage.
Sizing: 74”x 22” (blocked)
