Rescue Riches
I had the honor or spending several weeks in Melbourne, Australia in November 2019. The fires had already started in Sydney. Since animal rescue is a special part of my life, I have decided to donate all the proceeds from the sale of this lace top to help Australian wildlife affected by the fires. The original thought behind the design was to honor all the rescues that have come through our doors. Now, I hope it can help those so far away.
The wonderful thing about this top is that sizes S, M, L & yarn chicken XL can be knit with only 1 skein of yarn! And size 5X requires only 2 skeins! Yes, it’s size 4 needles, and light fingering weight yarn, but the amazing yarn by A Thing For String is so colorful and lovely, it was such a joy to work with. A thing for String Merino Fine 100% superwash merino wool, 820 yards, 150 grams.

I run Arkansas Hedgehog Rescue, where we rescue, rehabilitate and rehome pet hedgehogs. Each hedgehog has their own unique personality. Each one is special. A little gem, a little diamond. So, instead of naming this design after just one of them, it’s inspired by them all. Each diamond represents a hedgehog who has come through our doors. Many have been adopted, and many have remained part of our family, but they have all been loved.
Sizes S-5X.
US size 4 (3.5 mm) circular needles
US size 3 (3.75 mm) circular needles (ribbing)
This top is a lace design, knit bottom up in the round until you get to the armholes, then it is worked flat. The sleeves are worked flat, and seamed. 1 x 1 ribbing is used for the bottom band, as well as the sleeve bands. Stitches are picked up for the neck, and a rolled hem added. Knit in a heavy laceweight/light fingering yarn, it has approximately 3” 7.5 cm of negative ease at the full bust, and is available in sizes sm-5X. Model has 41” 104 cm bust, and is wearing size 37.5 95 cm bust.
