This is part of the ITFF research blanket project, and so the block is a representation of some of my research. In particular, it replicates in purl stitches on a stockinette background a graph of normal centiles (median, 5th and 95th centiles) for heart rate in children aged between birth and 17 years of age.

When knit to the suggested gauge, this produces an 8x8” block which can be incorporated into a blanket.

The pattern includes a “research statement” with additional information about the research upon which the block is based, as well as a chart for the block. The written directions are minimal and are insufficient to knit the block - you need to be able to read a chart. The chart has pattern stitches on both knit (right side) and purl (wrong side) rows.
