This is a beginner, level 1 crochet pattern. It is written in US terminology and uses metric measurements. This pattern is only available in English. If you need more assistance in completing the pattern,
This pattern was originally designed with Soft & Shiny Solid Yarn by Loops & Threads yarn in Bay Leaf (1 skein), Poison Apple (1 skein), White (1skein) and Yellow (1 skein) with a 3.5mm (E/4) crochet hook. The quetzal used to photograph for this pattern was made using Paintbox Yarns, Cotton DK yarn in Spearmint Green 426 (1 skein), Rose Red 414 (1 skein), Paper White 401 (1 skein) and Mustard Yellow 424 (1 skein), and a 2.75mm (C/2) crochet hook. Exact amounts are provided in the pattern. You will not need an entire 50g skein to make one quetzal.
A pair of 6mm doll safety eyes, a yarn needle, scissors, sewing pins and 6g-10g of fiberfill to stuff the quetzal are also necessary for this doll. This pattern contains instructions for an optional part of the pattern where crest feathers (the feathers at the top of the head), are needle fettled on. A needle felting needle is necessary for that portion of the pattern.
The average sizes of the dolls are listed below:
The quetzals made for the pattern averaged about 20cm long from the top of its crest feathers to the end of its longest tail. The body measures 4.5cm wide.
These measurements were taken with a quetzal made with Paintbox Yarns, Cotton DK yarn and a 2.75mm (C/2) crochet hook. The original quetzal was designed with Soft & Shiny Solid Yarn by Loops & Threads yarn and a 3.5mm (E/4) crochet hook. That quetzal measured 25cm in length and 5.5cm in width.
