The Resting Hero is a one-size-fits-all beanie. Its ribbing-like design allows it to grow to fit a larger head and shrink to fit a smaller head. When given to a person with 20in+ head circumference (average adult) it will be fitted and snug. When given to a person with a head circumference of less than 20in, the beanie has slouch, but will still hug the head securely. The resting hero was designed and published in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a time of unrest for humanity and, ironically, resting in our homes had the potential to save the lives of thousands of people. As we knitted in our homes, we were saving lives. As we sipped coffee at the kitchen table. As we lounged on the couch. As we danced in the kitchen with our children. As we had the most epic pillow fights ever seen. As we told stories in front of our fireplaces.
We were the resting heroes.
Our efforts stretched beyond saving humans. Cities plagued by smog began to clear. The citizens of Venice could now see the bottoms of their canals, teeming with fish. Wildlife began wandering into towns. City families that awaken to car horns and noise pollution were now waking up to the singing of birds outside their windows.
It is my hope that you use this pattern to continue being heroes. Though we rested comfortably in our homes, there were many whose homes had no walls. And they will continue to need our help even after the virus has gone. Spend more time at home and make hats for the collective.
