Retro Apres Ski
NOTE: THIS IS AN UNTESTED PATTERN AT THE MOMENT.
This design was inspired by a wine bottle cover I saw on the Drops Design Website. My design is worked flat, theirs is worked in the round. Both are fabulously retro. One for red wine, one for white.
I needed a last minute Christmas gift that was fun but quick to make and could be made from oddments in my stash. I am using lace weight yarn (800m/100g) doubled from my stash but you could try sock weight yarn (400m/100g) instead.
Tension was calculated to be 24 sts x 32 rows over stocking stitch. I am knitting mine on 3mm needles. It fits over a standard 75cl wine bottle and will stretch over a 1 litre spirits bottle. The cover should measure 25cm around, unstretched. I have gone for a 2 colour grey and white combo but any colour combinations would look fab. No yarn quantities are given but as a rough guide the first sample knitted with lace weight yarn used double, weighs 28g. Allowing 20g of each colour should be fine.
I would suggest sewing it up before washing the cover, that way you can block it using the bottle covered with a plastic bag to protect the label.
