Retro Baubles
Overlay mosaic crochet
Although I designed this with Christmas in mind, the subtle curvy design of Retro Baubles won’t look out of place at any time of year. It will also look equally great worked in just 2 colours, or multiple colours, as a stash buster.
To simplify the abbreviations, and avoid the need for separate UK and US versions, the pattern is written in ’Universal’ terms (which will be familiar to those of you who have made HoHoHo, Flora’s Fauna or my Jacquard Temperature Blanket (I originally developed this notation for this pattern).
If you want to find out more about my Universal terms, please see this short video https://youtu.be/IsubXOfEuVw
Approximate finished sizes, when worked to the stated gauge are:
Comforter 58 x 72 cm
Lap Blanket 85 x 100cm
Throw 142 x 142 cm
… or you can easily customise the pattern to make a different size if you wish.
Materials used
Yarn amounts below relate to a comforter {lap blanket, throw} sized blanket:
Stylecraft Special DK (100% acrylic; 295m / 100g):
2 {4, 9} balls in MC,
2 {4, 8} balls in CC1,
1 {1, 1} ball in CC2
4mm (US G/6) crochet hook
Please note, the pattern does not include a border.
There are instructions for various fringes, but if you would like to add an envelope border, instructions for a super-easy chain-start border are included in my free mosaic crochet tutorial, which can be downloaded from https://www.rosinaplane.com/mosaiccrochet
Retro Baubles is also easy to combine with many of my other mosaic crochet designs, if you start with a multiple of 48 + 5 stitches. These include HoHoHo, Baubles (2022 update), Norway Spruce, Flora’s Fauna, Meow!, Woof!, March Hare, Woodland Trail and Letitia’s Garden.
