Reusable Christmas Cracker Hat
On Christmas Day when my family sit down to our Christmas dinner, we pull some crackers. This is a British Christmas tradition, and these crackers are basically cardboard tubes which contain a snap banger to make the crack noise when it is pulled apart. In the tube is usually a corny joke, a plastic toy, and a colourful paper crown hat.
For the seconds of fun that we got from our crackers last Christmas, we also created a wasteful pile of discarded paper and plastic. So I thought I would knit our family hats so we can use them year after year instead.
This crown hat is easy to knit in garter stitch with a slipped stitch edge. You can resize your hat by knitting fewer/more crown points as desired to fit your family members.
PATTERN INFO:
- The crown is 8 cm tall and there are 3 sizes (child, teen and adult).
- The hat is knitted flat (back and forth) on a single-pointed knitting needles.
- You will also need to know how to cast on and off, knit, increase and decrease.
MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:
- A pair of straight 3.5 mm (US 4) single-pointed knitting needles
- Double knitting yarns (DK or light worsted weight)
- A darning needle for seaming
