Reverse 20
Reverse stockinette stitches are the main stitch on this top-down sweater. Because most of us prefer to work “knit” stitches rather than “purl” stitches, we knit this sweater inside-out in the round.
The sweater is a boxy and relaxed fit. Armholes are very generous and longer bottom rib and cuffs adds fun/modern look. The neck is a combination of rib and rolled edge. There are 4-knit stitch lines at raglan lines, side of body and under sleeves which add sleek and somewhat sporty look.
The bottom ribbing, cuffs and rolled neck end with contrasting color. The sample used Lani’s Lana sport weight yarn, black and natural mixed. (This yarn is called “sport weight”, but very softly twisted and you can get the correct gauge.)
GAUGE
20 sts , 29 rows in St.st.
If you would like to knit this sweater in bigger gauge / 18 sts, “Reverse 18” is the same style. - Ombre effect with 2 stranded sports weight yarn or worsted weight yarn.
SIZE
Finished measurements S (M, L, XL)
Please add 3”~6” positive ease on chest circumference.
- Chest circumference 38 (41, 44.5, 48.5)“
- Length 20 (20, 21, 21)“
YARN
Any DK ~ light worsted yarn works if you can get the correct gauge.
For example, if you prefer to have a warmer sweater, you can use Malabrigo Rios (worsted). If you prefer to have lighter/softer feel sweater, you can use Malabrigo Arroyo (DK).
The sample shown is knitted with Hikoo “Sueno Tweed” which contains some viscose from Bamboo. Very soft and comfortable to wear. I also like the look of Reverse st.st + tweedy yarn.
Other yarn choices
- Silk mohair + sport weight
- Doubled fingerling weight yarn
MC - 900 (1000, 1100, 1300) yards
CC - 30 (35, 40, 50) yards
NEEDLES
You need main size needles and one size smaller needles for ribbing.
Suggested needle size (main) - US 5~6 for cotton yarn, US6~7 for wool yarn.
