This design is one of my Shawl Starters, Set 2, patterns, featuring identically reversible rib stitch patterns. There are 5 patterns in all.

This example is made with mock cables on both sides. Using two dk weight yarns held together, the result is clear and less bulky, with a smoother texture to the knit. I recommend 2 skeins (530 yds) for a small/medium shawl and 4 skeins (1060 yds) for a large shawl.

The lovely 3 ply yarn of Paula Kucera at White Barn Farm Sheep and Wool has a soft and full texture, knitting on size #10 1/2 needles. For more rounded cables, a worsted or aran single yarn would be fine!

The starters are very handy to take on trips for those times I find a wonderful yarn and just can’t wait to get started on my next shawl.
