This is a good beginner project for double knitting. It uses small amounts of yarn and is a good “stash-buster”.

The tube requires a total of approximately 70g of fingering wt yarn; 25g each for the two “main” colours (dark brown and yellow in this sample) and the rest for the other 4 colours (5-10g each).

Skills required:

  • knitting in the round
  • purling
  • basic colourwork: holding and using 2 colours in a single row
  • long-tailed cast-on

The ski tube has the same diameter as a hat - this is a slim fitting neckwarmer meant for the ski hill. It is not what I would call a cowl.

That said, the pattern is simple enough to enlarge; add multiples of 8 sts to widen it and extend the motifs to lengthen it.
