Reversible Stripe Duo
I first learned this technique at a workshop at Woolcott and Company in Cambridge, MA. The shop I was later to own.
I was enthralled that a knitted garment could have stripes that go horizontally on one side, and vertically on the other. Originally the hat pattern did not have decreases for the crown. Instead the knitter simply synched the top closed. But that was somewhat inelegant to me and I’ve always wanted to refine it. So I worked out the decrease and love the result.
While I was playing with this pattern I wondered what the result would be if used while knitting a moebius. It was wonderful and magical. A moebius itself (if you’ve ever knitted one, you know) is an amazing thing to knit. But add in this pattern and you’ll be amazed. Since a moebius knitted in this manner (taught to me by Cat Bordhi) grows from the center outward, not only do you get a reversed pattern from front to back, but you get a reverse pattern on either side of the center line. Simply magical, I tell you.
The pattern includes links to YouTube Videos to help demonstrate some of the things that are easier to show than to write.
I can’t wait to see what other yarns other knitters will combine.
I hope you enjoy making these! Every effort has been made to ensure that the patterns are free from errors. If you find one, however, please let me know and I’ll make the necessary corrections.
If you have trouble understanding the pattern or what is going on, please also let me know and I’ll try my best to help you out!
