This winter toque provides so much warmth even though it’s knit with fingering weight (sock) yarn. The double layer makes for a comfy and unique hat. There are so many ways to add your own design and flare – different patterned and coloured yarns will provide lots of versatility in how the hat will look. Your imagination is the only limit. By simply turning the hat inside out, it can be worn 4 different ways.

I prefer to use Cascade Brand yarn, “Heritage” which is 75% Merino Wool and 25% Nylon but any fingering weight yarn will work.

One Size - Adult; Width unstretched: 20 inches/51 cm

Needles: Five (5), US 2 / 2.75 mm double pointed needles
One (1) US 2 / 2.75 mm, 16 inch/41 cm circular needle

You will need 1 ball for each colour - 3.5 oz/100 gr; 437 yards/400 metres

Skills: Working in the round

The awkward part is starting the hat as you cast on 2 stitches on to 4 doublepointed needles and then increase from there. But once a few rows are done, it’s simply a matter of increasing until you get the required number of stitches and then knitting in the round.
