Knit from the top down, this triangular shawl starts with spider lace that curves the top edge to hug the shoulders. That small undulating lace is followed by zig-zagging trellis lace. The spider lace border is outlined in reverse stockinette stitch and ends with a lacy edging that can be knit in either of two widths and cast off with crocheted chains.

The lace patterning offers an opportunity to play with color. While the shawl looks elegant in one color, two colors were used for the sample to show where changes could be made in more colors, a great use for leftover yarns.

Instructions are given for four sizes, and the shawl was designed for Istex Einband Icelandic laceweight wool. It also looks great in other lace, fingering, and Shetland/sport/DK weight yarns.
