This pattern includes 3 different headwear designs.

1) Top down hat in double ribbing
2) Bottom up Balaclava in single ribbing
3) Top down hoodie in stockinette

The ribbed hat uses 2 skeins of the recommended yarn, the balaclava 4 skeins and the hoodie 3 skeins.

These pieces of headwear are designed in only one size, but there are tips at the end of the pattern on how to adjust the size per garment.

The hat in double ribbing is knitted from the top down with a cast on around a ring of the working yarn, increases are made on each round until the width is reached, then the double ribbing is worked until the length is reached. I chose to make a pom-pom for the hat, this is completely optional.

The balaclava is knitted from the bottom up. It starts with a neck, then knit up stitches from the neck to the back of the hat. The head is shaped as you knit. The neck is constructed so that it can be pulled up over the nose for the really cold days.

The hoodie is knitted from the top down, where it starts with Judy’s magic cast on. It is then increased at one end to make room for the back of the head. The hood is slightly shaped at the neck before finishing with an icord in the front. The neck is shaped with short rows and finished with an icord.
