About the Pattern:
This is a very simple project that works up quickly and is easy to memorize, with nothing more complicated than picking up stitches, yarn-overs, and simple decreases.

Rhaegal is knit from the center out and down with a tab start. A very simple 4-row repeat broken up with garter sections makes a beautiful, simple project.

The yarn I used is, unfortunately, no longer in production. It was a thick-and-thin mulberry silk. I held two threads together to even out the weight, but there are still areas of my shawl that are thicker and thinner. I believe this gives it a bit of rustic charm.

This shawl would be fantastic with any of the following yarn recommendations:

  • Worsted weight such as Lion’s Brand Fisherman’s Wool, Malabrigo Rios, Malabrigo Susurro, Noro of choice, or anything by Frabjous Fibers
  • Two threads held together of fingering or lace weight yarn
  • DK or sport weight yarn for the main sections, and mohair or sparkle yarn held in addition for the garter sections
