As light and playful as the pattern of summer rain on the Rhein, this cheerful scarf combines dots and stripes into one whimsical piece. A perfect combination, that of ITO Shio (wool) and Sensai (mohair, silk), make this scarf exquisite both to wear and knit.

The technique is dimensional intarsia, where a thread for the motif is added together with the main thread, rather than switching yarns as in regular intarsia. It creates bubbles and stripes with a delightful, almost ethereal, texture.

MATERIALS

Lace 1 {main strand]: ITO Shio; 100% wool; 480 m (525 yd)/40 g; 445 String; yardage = 960 m / 1050 yd / 80 g / 2 cones
Lace 2 {intarsia strand]: ITO Sensai; 60% mohair, 40% silk; 240 m (262 yd)/20 g; 338 Tangerine; yardage = 480 m / 524 yd / 40 g / 2 skeins

Tip: When choosing your yarns, make sure that the two colours of your yarns have a strong enough contrast. Your main thread will shine through the intarsia motifs. If the colours are too close, the dots and stripes will not be visible enough.

Lebhafte Punkte und Streifen machen den Charme von Rheindrops aus. Er ist ein leichter und sehr langer, wunderschöner Sommerschal, der sich angenehm trägt und edel wirkt.

Die verwendete Technik ist ganz einfach: Für die Kreise und Streifen wird ein zweiter, oranger Faden zum Hintergrundfaden hinzugenommen. Dadurch wirken die Motive leicht und fast durchscheinend.

Tipp: Beim Garnkauf darauf achten, dass die beiden Garne einen ausreichenden farblichen Kontrast haben. Denn bei der verwendeten Technik wird die Hintergrundsfarbe immer ein wenig durch die Motive durchscheinen. Bei zu ähnlichen Farben sind die Motive kaum zu erkennen.
