The Rhodean Sun hat is part of a matching set, which includes the Rhodean Sun cowl. I originally designed and knitted these patterns back in early 2019, but I have completely refreshed them for inclusion in this book, and I am wildly delighted with the results.

I decided I needed to have a rainbow-striped hat and cowl set in my life, and this seems like the perfect pattern to adapt for the striping.

The pattern on the hat might look like some kind of complex cable design, but it is in fact made solely with Dec/Incs: combination stitches that decrease as well as increase in the same spot.
The effect is breathtakingly beautiful, and when positioned judiciously, the overall pattern can be simply staggering. Just look at the crown of this hat, and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about!

If you aren’t into stripes, this hat looks just as good worked with just two colours used throughout, as with my original pink and grey sample. Simply ignore the colour-change instructions in the pattern, and knit your hat whatever way you like!

The name, out of interest, comes from the fact that when I designed and knitted my original samples for this hat and cowl set, I was enjoying an idyllic holiday with friends, on the gorgeous Greek island of Rhodes, staying with the wonderful family who own the Rhodean Sun hotel.
