Ribbed Dress
The Ribbed Dress knitting pattern is easy even for a relative beginner. It is worked from the top down, seamless, using stockinette and simple rib stitches, which widen as you progress down the skirt to create the swing shape.
Although the pattern is simple, the finished dress looks complex and dramatic!
The bodice is designed with negative ease and nicely fits different bust sizes. Softly flared skirt, similar to a timeless skater style, is designed with positive ease and fits mostly every body shape. You can knit the dress to the length you require.
SKILL LEVEL: Beginner with some experience of pattern reading.
Sts used: K, p, yo, m1k, m1p.
MATERIALS REQUIRED Based on knee length (see measurements below)
• 14 (16, 19, 21) x 50g balls 1820 (2080, 2470, 2730) m or 1990, (2275, 2701, 2986) yds using Elegant Metallic Cotton from Ice Yarns (67841 colour shade) or any other cotton (50g - 130m ball).
NOTE If you substitute another yarn, please check gauge (tension) and yardage.
• 1 Circular needle 3.00mm x length 50cm (US 2 ½).
• 1 Circular needle 3.00mm x length 80cm (US 2 ½).
• 1 Circular needle 3.00mm x length 110cm (US 2 ½).
NOTE needle size is only a guide- if you get too many stitches on 10cm, take a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches on 10cm, take a smaller needle size.
• 1 Tapestry needle.
• 8 Stitch Markers.
ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS AFTER WASHING
To fit bust: S (81 - 86), M (91 - 94), L (97 - 102), XL (104 - 109) cm / S (32 - 34), M (36 - 37), L (38 - 40), XL (41 - 43) ins.
Dress flat width (just below armhole) - 40 (44, 49, 53) cm/ 15 ¾ (17 ¼, 19 ¾, 21) ins.
Dress length (from top of the shoulders) - 88 (90, 92, 94) cm / 34 ¾ (35 ½,
36 ¼, 37) ins.
NOTE Negative ease at the bust, positive ease from bust down. Finished dress bust measurements are smaller than bust measurements, because of rib pattern which stretch to fit bust.
The pattern is in 4 sizes. It is photographed in M size option. Pattern is written for smallest size with bigger sizes in parentheses.
GAUGE (Tension): 21 sts and 33 rows = 10cm (4ins), measured over Stockinette st, (garment being blocked), using 3.00mm (US 2 ½) needle or size required to give correct tension.
23 st and 30 rows = 10cm (4ins), measured over rib K1, p1, garment being blocked), using 3.00 mm (US 2 ½) needle or size required to give correct tension.
NOTE It’s very important to check your gauge (tension) before starting as working to the wrong tension will mean your garment won’t be size shown.
