Ribs and Ridges Vest
The Ribs and Ridges Vest is knit from the bottom up. The body is knit in the round until the armholes and is then divided for the front and back yokes. The yokes are knit flat (back and forth). When the yokes are finished, the shoulders are joined using a 3-needle bind off that creates an invisible seam. Stitches are then picked up around the neck and around the armholes for 3-row trims. The entire vest can be knit in one color, or the yoke can be knit in a second color. The bottom ribbing and trims can be knit in a third complimentary color.
The vest is designed to be knit at a gauge that is larger than typically used for worsted yarn, but smaller than typically used for bulky yarn. This is accomplished by stranding 2 different yarn weights throughout the project. I generally knit this pattern using worsted stranded with fingering/sock. Other yarn combinations that produce the gauge indicated include DK stranded with sport, or light bulky stranded with lace/light fingering.
You can match yarns that are a similar color for low contrast blending, or if using a multi-color yarn, choose one that includes the same color as the solid color yarn, but is several shades lighter or darker.
