This design was inspired by the “Richard the Roundhead” coverlet in the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection. The coverlet was embroidered by Miss Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth over several decades at Gawthorpe.

MATERIALS
Hat body
Jamieson & Smith 2 ply Jumper Weight 100% Shetland Wool 25g/115m/125yds
• A: White 01a x 2 balls
• B: Teal fc41 x 2 balls
Brim lining and crown button
Jamieson and Smith Shetland Heritage Yarn 100% Shetland Wool 25g/110m/120yds
• C: Madder x 1 ball
• 2.5mm (US1/2) and 2.75mm (US2) circular needles both 40cm long
• Set of 2.75mm (US2) double pointed needles OR 2.75mm (US2) 80cm long (for working crown top)
• Waste yarn
• 2.5mm (USB/1-C/2) crochet hook for provisional cast on
• Stitch marker
• Tapestry needle

TENSION
7 sts and 8 rnds to 2.5cm/1in square over colourwork pattern in the round.
Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

MEASUREMENTS
To fit average adult head circumference 50-55cm/19 ¾-21¾in.
