Ricky the Raccoon
A free version is also available.
This egg-shaped Raccoon amigurumi crochet pattern is an easy, quick, and cute crochet pattern for Easter.
While some crochet experience is recommended, if you know basic crochet stitches, colour changing, and how to crochet in the round - you’ll be able to make this adorable little raccoon.
The crochet pattern is available for free on my blog here. However, if you’d prefer the ad-free version as a PDF download, this can be purchased from my Ravelry store.
Materials needed
- Yarn: DK chenille yarn. I recommend using Sirdar Happy Chenille in the following colours: Light Purple (12 grams = 31m/34yds), Dark Purple (2 grams = 5m/5.5yds), and White (1 gram = 2.5m/2.8yds).
- Crochet Hook: 2.5mm (or 2.75mm/B or C in US)
- Other Materials: Stuffing, Needle, Scissors, Pins, Stitch Marker, 6mm safety eyes, White embroidery thread/DK yarn, Black embroidery thread
Raccoon Size
Using the yarn and hooks specified in this pattern, my creation was 5cm/1.96” wide by 8cm/3” high.
Gauge
Gauge is not required for this pattern, however keep tension consistent throughout. For reference, my gauge was:
5 sc stitches on 2.5cm / 1″
5 rows on 2.5cm / 1″
Additional Information
- Pattern language: English
- Pattern terms: US Terms
- Level: Easy
- Stitches Used: Magic circle, single crochet, increases and decreases
- Yarn: The yarn choice is completely up to you, and you can change the yarn weight, material, and colours based on your own personal preference. Just be aware that the weight of your yarn may impact the hook size you need to use and also the size of your final make.
- Hook size: I recommend using a smaller hook size than recommended on the yarn label. This will stop the stuffing from appearing through your stitches.
- Eyes: Please note that safety eyes are a choking hazard and are not suitable for children under 3 years of age. As an alternative, consider embroidering the eyes instead.
- Working in rounds: All parts within this pattern are worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.
- Stitch marker: Use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round/row to keep track of the number of stitches.
- No-sew elements: Some body parts are attached to the body as you crochet. As a result, I recommend crocheting the feet and tail before you crochet the body. The no-sew technique is explained clearly throughout the pattern.
- Copyright: You are more than welcome to sell your crocheted creations using this pattern on a small scale. However, the pattern itself cannot be reproduced, sold, or redistributed in any way without the designers’ consent.
